Friends Detroit partners with PBS Kids Read, Write, Roar Program

Friends Detroit has teamed up with PBS Kids to bring a transformative program to the youth we serve: the Read, Write, Roar program. This collaboration is more than just an educational endeavor; it's a commitment to nurturing the hopes and dreams of our youth by ensuring they get the foundational skills they need to thrive, succeed in school, and ultimately, reach their full potential.

The Power of PBS Kids

PBS Kids, known for its high-quality educational programming, has been a trusted resource for parents and educators for decades. With a focus on early childhood development and learning, PBS Kids has introduced countless children to the joys of reading, writing, and creativity.

The Read, Write, Roar Program

The Read, Write, Roar program is an innovative program designed to enhance the educational experience of the children involved. It's an immersive approach that encourages kids to embrace reading and writing as tools for self-expression and personal growth. Here's a closer look at how this program works:

  1. Early Literacy Support: The program places a strong emphasis on developing early literacy skills, recognizing that these foundational skills are critical for a child's educational journey. Children are provided with age-appropriate books and reading materials, ensuring they have the resources needed to build a strong reading foundation.
  2. Creative Writing and Storytelling: Children are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild through creative writing and storytelling exercises. These activities help build not only writing skills but also boost creativity and self-confidence.
  3. Engaging Workshops and Activities: The Read, Write, Roar program hosts various workshops and activities that make learning fun. From interactive storytelling sessions to arts and crafts, these experiences create a positive, enriching environment for children.
  4. Mentorship and Guidance: The heart of the program lies in the mentorship provided by Friends Detroit’s professional Friends. Our Friends serve as coach and motivators providing children with consistent, caring encouragement and guidance as they navigate their educational journey.

Impact on Detroit's Youth

The partnership between Friends of the Children - Detroit and PBS Kids has yielded significant positive outcomes for Detroit's youth. Here are some key impacts:

  1. Improved Literacy Skills: The program has played a pivotal role in enhancing the reading and writing abilities of participating children, setting them up for success in school and beyond.
  2. Increased Confidence: By encouraging creativity and self-expression, the Read, Write, Roar program helps children build confidence in their own abilities and voices.
  3. A Love for Learning: Through engaging and interactive activities, children develop a genuine love for learning that can serve them throughout their lives.

Our partnership with PBS Kids is an example of how community organizations can come together to create positive impacts. Thank you PBS Kids for this incredible partnership!
